Sourav Ray is Professor and Chair of Marketing at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University in Canada.
He is also the Research Director, Marketing Analytics, of MiSCAN (the Marketing and Supply Chain Analytics lab). He is a co-founder and co-chair of the Canadian Empirical and Theoretical (ET) Symposium on Marketing Strategy. He has been a member of the prestigious SSHRC (Canada's main federal granting agency for social science research) grant adjudication committee for four years.
Sourav's contribution to cutting edge marketing thought is recognized globally. He has been sought out by industry associations for commentaries on current marketing trends and invited to give numerous seminars around the world to both academic and practitioner audiences.
Industry leading handbooks have published his articles on pricing and channel strategies.
Sourav has almost twenty years of experience teaching Marketing at all levels from the general undergraduate and MBA, to more specialized MSc and PhD programs. He has also taught in professionally oriented Executive Education programs, and has served as an expert witness in marketing and policy related cases. Sourav has consulted for several organizations in the education, technology and industrial sectors on several topics including data analytics, dealer management, product strategy and innovation. His clients have covered the range from small entrepreneurial ventures to several Fortune 500 firms.
Sourav’s research interests include business to business marketing, distribution channels, pricing, hi-tech and entrepreneurship. His research has been funded by a number of agencies through prestigious competitive grants. Some of Sourav's current research interests include retail pricing practices that leverage emerging digital technologies; design of OEM product performance contracts (PPCs) under emerging digital monitoring technologies; and organizing to manage channel conflicts in the digital age. He uses both emerging and traditional research tools in data analytics, models and marketing research. Top academic journals in Marketing and Economics such as Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of Law and Economics, have published his papers. He currently supervises several PhD dissertations in Marketing.
Sourav received a Ph.D. in Marketing from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and a Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, respectively.
