Bio-Sketch

  • John Edmondson is a writer, independent scholar and consultant. From 1990 to 2016 he ran his own journals publishing business, which he sold to Sage Publications.

    Over the years, he has written a wide variety of articles and reviews on issues in higher education. Books include Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Exchange, co-edited with Professor Jay Mitra and Innovation and the Arts: The Value of Humanities Studies for Business, co-edited with Piero Formica. From 1990 until the end of 2022, he was academic Editor of the bimonthly journal Industry and Higher Education.

    As an independent scholar in the field of Victorian Studies, John specializes primarily in mid-19th century literature and society. Books include A Traveller’s Literary Companion to France, 1997 and Dickens on France, 2006. Among his specific interests have been the repeated journey as a means of textual interpretation, how perceptions of the city are mediated by proximity and distance. John is currently working on time and narrative in relation to Dickens’s fiction and on the City novels of the once popular Charlotte Riddell.
